Children from Truro School Prep were treated to musical masterclasses with Emily Barden, composer and choral leader.
Emily is well-known for her songs, which are written specifically for children to sing and perform. During her sessions, she shared her work with our pupils, beginning with her composition, ‘One in a Million’. You can view their performance in the video below.
She then taught the groups ‘Find Your Light’, which she co-wrote with other young people from Suffolk, spreading the shared joy of music across the counties.
‘Find Your Light’ has multiple elements for the children to grasp, including a canon section and harmony. It also contains a sign-language component, creating an extra layer of communication within the performance.
During their sessions, pupils were able to work on their performance and the energy they were putting into each song. “It is wonderful to see the confidence grow in each pupil as they learn to take up space and use their voices. The goal is to see them become proud of their voice,” explained Emily after one workshop.
It was certainly a memorable and joyful day for all of our lucky pupils who took part. We want to thank Emily for sharing her talent and skills, and Ms Renshaw for organising the day.
