Year 4 STEAM Discovery Day

We are delighted to share our plans for a community outreach event at Truro School Prep. The STEAM Discovery Morning is part of an ongoing programme of community-facing events run by the school that includes sports, science, maths and career days.

Our Discovery Day, open to Year 4 pupils from primary schools across Cornwall, is a chance for children with an interest in science, technology, art and design, to engage in a fun and challenging morning with our teaching teams at Prep and to meet others with similar interests.

Year 4 STEAM Discovery Day
Saturday 16 March 2024, 10am – 12pm
At Truro School Prep

The morning will allow pupils to experience a range of STEAM subjects including DT, Computing and Coding and Art and Design.

Year 4 pupils from any Cornish primary school are invited to sign up. Pupils will choose one of three subjects, meet fellow pupils from around the county and develop deeper thinking skills. Each session will consist of a 2-hour lesson with one of Truro School Prep’s specialist teachers.

The sessions will include:

  • DT: Robo-craft; designing and building a wooden robot
  • Art: Print-tastic art, experimenting with printing using polyprint, hand rollers and water-based inks
  • Computing and Coding: A Micro:bit workshop for young innovators

The STEAM Discovery Day will run from 10am-12pm at Truro School Prep, with snacks and drinks provided. All Year 4 children are welcome but spaces are limited and allocated on a first come basis.
