Dear Old Truronians
We began this term by celebrating 146 years of Truro School, whose story began on January 20, 1880, as Truro Wesleyan Middle Class College. The School welcomed its first 35 boys into a chapel schoolroom in the heart of the city. Rapid growth led to the purchase of the current site in 1881, with the new buildings opening the following year. In 1931, the School adopted the name Truro School, and in 1934 it joined the Head Masters’ Conference (HMC), marking its public-school status. The journey to full independence concluded in 1977 with the end of the Direct Grant Scheme.
This year, we also celebrate 50 years of pioneering co-education. Girls first entered the Sixth Form in 1976, and by 1990 the School became fully co-educational. To mark this milestone, we are hosting a reunion dinner and “old school” disco in August, and we hope many of you will join us. Planning this event has given us the chance to reflect on the inspiring paths taken by our female Old Truronian community and the strong connections they have maintained with each other.
In March, we marked International Women’s Day with a busy Business Breakfast featuring Old Truronians Jess Alderson CO08 and her sister Loella Alderson CO11, co‑founders of So Syncd. Jess spoke about their entrepreneurial journey, the rewards of working together, and the impact of their platform. Several Sixth Formers attended and gained valuable career insights. We are grateful to Jess and Loella for returning to inspire the next generation.
We were also pleased to welcome our new Director of External Relations, Poppy Naylor. Her role will strengthen relationships with current and prospective families, deepen engagement with our Old Truronian community, and help us grow our fundraising capacity to support greater access to life changing bursaries. Poppy is very much looking forward to meeting many of you at reunions and School events.
In this newsletter, you’ll find four reunions already scheduled for 2026 – there’s something for everyone.
Thank you for being part of the Old Truronian community.
