Dear Old Truronians
A very warm welcome to the Class of 2026, our newest Old Truronians. Following the School’s strongest A-Level results in over a decade, this year’s leavers have headed off to 32 universities across the UK and beyond, and we can’t wait to hear where their journeys take them next.
We’re excited to share the first edition of our new Truro School magazine. Bringing together Terraces and The Truronian, this new publication tells the story of life at Truro School, past and present – weaving together stories and moments from across our Nursery, Prep, Senior School and Sixth Form, alongside the achievements and experiences of our wider school and alumni community, celebrating the people and stories that make Truro School such a special place.

It’s been a busy summer of visits at the School, with Old Truronians returning from across the UK and further afield. We welcomed visits from Professor Nigel Nayling CO78, en route from West Wales to Spain to reflect on his career in maritime archaeology; David Ellis CO58, back for the first time in 68 years all the way from Australia; and Leo Chow CO92, who travelled from the Midlands, having moved from Hong Kong in 2019, Jason Webb CO87 while holidaying in Cornwall, and Martin Palmer, our former Director of Music, who returned for his first look at the new Music Department.
At Truro School Prep we were delighted to host Gemma Rawlinson CO01 and the Forbes-Hamilton family – brothers Ian and Richard, who were also joined by their sister Fiona who had reunited in Cornwall as they retraced their family history.
We also had the pleasure of visiting the Tom Cross art collection alongside Mr Heseltine whose legacy in the Truro School Art Department continues. We were kindly hosted by the artists’ son and Old Truronian David Cross CO79, who took time to show us the extensive archive of his work, as the School considers future acquisitions for the Truro School Art Collection.
In the wider community, the Truro School Golf Society enjoyed it’s most successful gathering to date, welcoming 38 golfers to Carlyon Bay Golf Club for the Society’s fifth annual event. It was wonderful to see such a great mix of current pupils, staff, Old Truronians and friends of the School.
However, it wasn’t before long that September arrived and the new academic year at Truro School began with a particularly momentous start. We’re delighted to welcome two Old Truronians to the teaching staff at Truro School Prep – Kathy MacQuarrie CO18, joining as a Pre-Prep KS1 teacher, and Katherine Constant-White (nee ffrench-Constant) CO05, who joins as Teacher of English.
As we look to the year ahead, this Autumn Term we’re especially proud to be starting it in celebration of 50 years of co-education at Truro School, marking half a century since Tanya Roberts and Johanna Walker became the school’s first female pupils in September 1976.
We’d love to hear your own memories of the school’s transition to co-education, as we celebrate this milestone together throughout 2026-27.
In October, we’re looking forward to welcoming Old Truronians back to school for two very special milestone reunions – the Class of 1976, marking 50 years since they first walked through our doors, and the Class of 1964, celebrating their 80th birthdays together. Old Truronians from nearby groups are also very welcome to join in the celebrations. We can’t wait to see old friends reconnect and share their memories of Truro School. If you are interested in attending either of these reunions, don’t delay as booking closes soon for both.

Welcome to the first edition of our new Truro School magazine. Whether you’re reading as an Old Truronian, current pupil or parent, we hope this magazine brings the Truro School story to life. In this issue, you can catch up on news and updates about Old Truronians that you may have missed from the previous year, plus featured stories about OTs including Ben Dawson CO25, Charlie Pendarves CO12, Patrick Thomas CO12, Harvey Sampson CO70, Julian Hanwell CO76 and Ollie Jones CO23 – and much more.

We want to make sure the time and energy we put into Old Truronian reunions, communications and support genuinely reflect what matters to you. That’s why we’ve put together a short survey to better understand your interests, how you’d like to stay connected, and what you’d value most from us going forward.
It should only take a few minutes to complete, and every response helps us shape a better experience for the whole Old Truronian community.
Prize draw
As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw, with one lucky winner selected at random to win a hamper from An Tresor Co. – an Old Truronian-owned business founded in 2024 by Kate Barnes CO24.
The winner will receive a gift box worth £50 which includes: Furniss Original Cornish Gingerbread Biscuits, Tregothnan Earl Grey Tea, The Cornish Larder Cornish Ale Chutney with St Ives Brewery, Cornish Sea Salt Crystals and Cornish Country Cordials Rhubarb & Elderflower.

In September 1976 the first girls started at Truro School, heralding the beginning of co-education here. At that time Tanya Roberts and Johanna Walker were the only girls in the school. Tanya spoke to a local newspaper at the time, ‘I think they were stunned when we first walked into the classroom … no one said anything to us at all. They had never had any girl pupils in the school and didn’t know what to expect. They got over it. By lunchtime they actually spoke to us’. They were soon accepted and felt ‘really … rather spoilt’. On the plus side, there was no school uniform for them, and they were guaranteed a spot in the school play if they wanted it.
In 2026–27, Truro School celebrates 50 years of co-education, marking half a century since the first girls joined the Sixth Form in 1976. To commemorate this anniversary, the Development and Alumni Relations team is inviting Old Truronians to share their memories of the school becoming co-educational.
