Boarders Catch the Cornish Surf

Over the weekend, our boarders swapped the boarding houses for the beach, heading to Perranporth for an afternoon in the Cornish surf.

That sense of place is part of what makes boarding at Truro School distinctive. Few schools can offer a surf session as a weekend activity, and for boarders far from home, moments like these turn Cornwall from a backdrop into somewhere they belong.

The waves brought out courage in equal measure to skill. First-timers pushed themselves into unfamiliar territory, wobbling to their feet for the first time with housemates cheering them on. More experienced surfers, meanwhile, honed their skills, while offering tips and steadying a board or two along the way.

What stood out most was the sense of community and the close-knit, family feel that boarding at Truro School is known for: pupils looking out for one another, celebrating each other’s wins, and building memories together.

Days like this are exactly why so many families choose boarding here, not just for what’s on the doorstep, but for the community that grows out of sharing it.
