United in Song for the House Singing Competition

The Chapel was filled with a joyful chorus of voices as the House Singing Competition got underway. Pupils from Year 7, supported by their Year 8 peers, split into their houses for an afternoon of music, friendly rivalry and camaraderie.

The House Singing Competition is one of a raft of exciting opportunities that pupils take part in to earn points for their beloved Truro School Houses: Wickett, Vinter, School and Smith. This was the first year that the Year 7s were joined by their ‘housemates’ from Year 8. The hope is that this will become an annual tradition, with next year’s Year 9s and Year 8s joining in the fun with the Year 7s, with the event growing each year again. This inter-year peer support will help create a stronger bond and shared love of music across the year groups, and we look forward to seeing this grow.

For this year, however, the competition was fierce as our four houses took to the chapel stage. With adjudicator and Cornwall Music Service Trust Board member Jackie Brant leading the judging, there were points for musicality, performance and even uniform. Musical genres varied across the board, from rousing rock to gentle pop, and it was wonderful to see our pupils delivering spirited performances and supporting their friends in equal measure.

Sadly, there could only be one winner on the day, and the accolade and much-covered House Singing Competition shield went to School House for their rendition of Guns N ‘ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child of Mine.’

A huge well done to all of the pupils and staff who sang, supported and cheered on throughout the day.
