Nature-Inspired Art Print Workshop for Year 5

This week, Year 5 pupils at Truro School Prep enjoyed a creative and hands-on screen printing workshop led by Dena O’Brien from Kiwi Print in Camborne. Over two days, pupils were introduced to the screen printing process and allowed to create their own two-colour prints, as well as collaborate on a large banner with their form.

Dena provided a fantastic experience, encouraging pupils to work independently and build confidence using the equipment. The workshop supported not only their artistic skills, but also problem-solving, creativity and collaboration, key elements of the broader curriculum provided at Truro School Prep.

The project was themed around nature, linking to the Year 5 Belerion Award, and each group designed banners inspired by the life and work of Sir David Attenborough, in celebration of his 100th birthday. This connection helped pupils see how art can be used to explore and express ideas from across different subjects, including science and environmental awareness.

Art plays an important role in a broader education at Truro School Prep. Opportunities like this allow pupils to develop practical skills while also thinking creatively and making meaningful links across their learning.

The children did a brilliant job, and we look forward to seeing their beautiful work displayed around the school.
