First Look Inside New Music Centre

We are pleased to reveal a first look inside the new Music Centre, offering an exciting glimpse into the transformational new space for music education and community partnership in Cornwall.

Now entering its final stages of construction, the development is just months away from completion, with final fitouts and finishing touches currently underway ahead of its opening in the summer.

The purpose-built Music Centre will bring together rehearsal, teaching, recording and performance spaces under one roof, creating a vibrant hub for creativity, collaboration and musical excellence. Alongside a refurbished Assembly Hall, the development represents one of the most significant investments in music education and community provision in the region.

Designed to support all genres and abilities, the new facilities include specialist practice rooms, ensemble and orchestral rehearsal spaces, music technology and recording facilities, flexible teaching classrooms and welcoming communal areas for pupils, staff and visiting community groups.

The project has been shaped around Truro School’s long-standing belief in the transformative power of music and the importance of widening access to creative opportunities for young people across Cornwall.

Andy Johnson, Head of Truro School, said:

“Seeing the spaces come to life is incredibly exciting for everyone involved in the project. We are immensely proud that this development will benefit not only Truro School pupils, but also the wider Cornwall community through partnerships, performances and shared musical experiences for generations to come.”

The Music Centre has been developed in partnership with Cornish charity Cornwall Music Service Trust, and with the support of the Roseland Music Society, strengthening the cultural and educational landscape while creating new opportunities for collaboration and outreach.

Sustainability has also been central to the design, with the project targeting high BREEAM environmental standards through features including photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and energy-efficient systems.

As work continues towards completion, Truro School thanks supporters, partners and the wider community for their enthusiasm and encouragement throughout the project journey.

The School is continuing to welcome support for the Music Centre as it prepares to open its doors. Contributions of all sizes will help enhance opportunities for young musicians and support community access to music and the arts across Cornwall.
