Our lucky Year 5 pupils have been enjoying their Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) cookery sessions at Truro School Cookery.
As part of the Year 5 language carousel, where pupils currently explore Spanish, French and German across the academic year, each class visits the Senior School to bring their learning to life through food. These hands-on sessions not only deepen cultural understanding, but also build confidence, independence and practical kitchen skills.
The culinary journey began with a taste of Spain, where pupils embraced their inner cocineros to bake Magdalenas from scratch. Under the guidance of the Truro School Cookery team, they practised essential skills including portioning, beating and grating orange zest, all while building confidence in both language and kitchen.
Over the next few weeks, pupils will visit France, with our budding étudiants working to create palmiers, and Germany, with pupils creating a traditional Apfelstrudel. We will add to the gallery below with images from each session.
These sessions are about far more than just cooking, as they also offer a valuable opportunity for pupils to experience the Senior School environment, meet staff and become familiar with the facilities ahead of their transition in Year 7.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and confidence shown by all our Year 5 pupils, whether testing their vocabulary or trying something new in the kitchen.
A big thank you to the Truro School Cookery team and all staff involved in making these engaging and enriching sessions possible.
