It has been another busy and engaging week in Pre-Prep, with pupils across Nursery to Year 2 immersing themselves in a wide range of exciting learning experiences.
Our Nursery children have reached an important milestone in phonics, having now learned all the single letter sounds. They are beginning to explore ‘special friends’ (pairs of letters that together make one sound), taking their early reading skills to the next level. Alongside this, their Spanish lessons have been full of energy and imagination, as the children learned about different types of transport, enthusiastically pretending to drive cars and fly aeroplanes around the classroom.
In Reception, pupils have been building on their literacy skills by learning how to write clear and effective instructions. This week, the focus has been on creating lists and understanding the purpose of bullet points. In maths, they have been exploring place value, using a hundred square to deepen their understanding of numbers and patterns.
Year 1 pupils have been developing their literacy knowledge by learning the difference between singular and plural nouns, and how word endings change with different suffixes. In science, they have been making the most of our school grounds by studying bee species, observing which flowers the bees are drawn to and investigating how bees’ UV vision affects how they see colour.
Meanwhile, Year 2 has been tackling new mathematical concepts, including rotating shapes through half and quarter turns, as well as exploring fractions of different amounts. In art, pupils experimented with acrylic paints, learning how to create expressive swirls and movement in their work.
It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity across all year groups this week.
