As part of their exciting Victorian topic, Year 1 travelled back in time to discover what life was like during the Victorian era with a visit to Lanhydrock House.
The children began their day with a fascinating tour of the grand living quarters, where they learned about the Robartes family’s history and how they lived in such an impressive home. They then stepped downstairs to explore the servants’ world, discovering the strict rules and demanding conditions that shaped daily life below stairs.
One of the highlights of the visit was exploring the vast Victorian kitchens. The children were amazed to see how meals were prepared without electricity and how food was kept cool long before modern fridges existed. From enormous cooking ranges to clever storage spaces, the kitchen was full of fascinating discoveries that brought the past to life.
Throughout the day, the children were full of curiosity and thoughtful questions as they compared Victorian life with their own experiences today. By the end of the visit, Year 1 had gained a wonderful insight into how different life was for families and servants in the past, making it a memorable and engaging way to bring their history learning to life.
