Whilst still mid rehearsals, there will be approx 20 minutes of music and dance combinations between 1.45-2.15. Bring it On is a “Mean Girls Meet Hamilton” style Cheerleading / Hip Hop Musical written by Lin Manuel Miranda.
The musical takes audiences on a high-flying journey that is filled with the themes of friendship, jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness. Bring It On features an original story by Tony Award winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music and lyrics by Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning composer, Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton), music by Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning composer, Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), lyrics by Broadway lyricist, Amanda Green (High Fidelity), and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical.
The story – Campbell is cheer-royalty at Truman High School and in her senior year she’s been named captain of the squad! But, an unexpected and forced change of school has seen her transfer to the neighbouring Jackson High School where there is no cheer squad but instead a hip hop dance crew. Campbell persuades Jackson’s Dance crew leader, Danielle, to form a powerhouse Cheer squad for the ultimate competition — the National Championships.
Bring It On is BOOM’s third show and has a colourful assortment of characters. Directed by West End Director/Choreographer and Performer, Simon Hardwick, we bring you an exciting fresh sound and including explosive choreography by Benjamin Di’Ath with aerial stunts supported by coaches at Penzance Pirates Cheerleading squad. This hilarious, universal story is sure to be everything that you hoped for and nothing like you expected performed by some of the best of Cornwall’s youth talent many heading off to top Performing Arts schools this Autumn.
