Musicians hit the right notes with top awards

Huge congratulations to Helena P and Harry F, two incredibly talented musicians, who have both accomplished remarkable achievements.

Harry recently took his Diploma of Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (dipABRSM) on the trumpet.

Not only did Harry pass his dipABRSM diploma, but he passed it with an almost unheard of Distinction. Diplomas follow 1-8 graded examinations and are not usually intended for school students, so it is impressive when a student achieves one of these awards. After Grade 8 there is an ARSM diploma, followed by the more difficult dipABRSM.

At the end of last term, young people from around the UK entered the BBC’s Inspire Composing Competition. At the end of the process, a handful of compositions were chosen to be given live performances, and Helena’s choral piece Twilight was subsequently performed on BBC Radio 3 by the BBC Singers, in a BBC Prom Concert, on 17 August.

At the end of last term many other pupils took their ABRSM Music Exams and, as usual, there were many excellent results. There were also some outstanding achievements, including:

  • Henry T, who achieved a Merit in his Grade 8 Double Bass examination
  • Oliver J, Jonathan T and Oliver T, who all achieved a Distinction in Grade 6 Piano
  • Katie M, who scored an impressive Distinction in her Grade 8 Singing
