Year 6 Orienteering – A Hoot in the Woods

Over recent weeks, the children have been learning to navigate and orientate their maps to find marked controls in the school grounds. On Friday 3 October, we took them to Idless Woods for an action packed afternoon of orienteering.

They were organised into small groups with a whistle, map and clues for the different controls. Mr Hobson started each group off at timed intervals, giving the staff time to scramble to their allocated check points. The children spent an enjoyable afternoon, having a hoot in the woods, while the staff tracked their progress on their walkie talkies.

If the singing on the coach was anything to go by… the afternoon was a big success! Thank you to all of the staff involved for their support.
