A 7.15am meeting and off and away in the mini-bus to Bryanston School in Dorset was always going to be an exciting prospect for the Year 6 netball players. So arriving at a school whose football and rugby pitches were under water and car parks full of mini-buses and cars for the annual Bryanston Invitation Netball Event made the girls slightly nervous.
The nerves swiftly disappeared once they were on court warming up and playing matches. This tournament has been running for 18 years and we have been lucky to be invited for the last three. It is a superbly organised event that runs with military precision. There were 53 netball teams playing, of which 29 were in the Year 6 U11 event.
The squad of players produced some brilliant netball play and won all of the matches in their section.
V Farliegh – Won 4-3
V Mount House – Won 7-0
V Barrow Hills – Won 3-0
V Dumpton – Won 5-1
V Thorngrove – Won 5-3
V Ballard – Won 11-0
After a fiercely contested semi-final against Durlston Court, the girls’ emerged as victors 4-3. Cheers all around the courts from the senior Truro School players, who were competing in the U13 event, and onto the final against Twyford. Once more the nerves kicked in and after being 4-0 down at half time, the match finished 3-7 to Twyford.
The players were runners-up in the tournament and each received a medal. Rosie was nominated as player of the tournament and received a drinks bottle as her prize. After a supper provided by Bryanston School, and a long presentation ceremony, we all travelled back safely and the players were already talking about the next matches!
