On Wednesday 12th October, 6AG were blessed with a bright Cornish Autumn day to explore some of the beautiful landscape and history of St Agnes.
Starting from Chapel Porth beach, the children took turns to navigate their way through Chapel Coombe, learning much of the history of mining as they went. Successful map reading skills took them to the top of the beacon where they heard the legend of Bolster the giant. Mist that had blocked distant views from the top cleared as they reached the coastal footpath.
The coastguard told them about his job as they passed the lookout station before children explored the mining buildings around Wheal Coates and learned about the history of the mine and how the ore was processed. From here it was a final descent to return to Chapel Porth and well-earned ice-creams for all!
