Rob Trebilcock from the Upper Sixth reached a milestone in his Air Cadet career recently, when he qualified as a Grade 1 gliding instructor.
Cadet Flight Sergeant Rob, of 730 (City of Truro) Squadron Air Training Corps, was thrilled to be able to fly one of the Squadron’s junior cadets, Ben, on his very first experience flight. During the flight, in a glider at 626 Volunteer Gliding Squadron at Predannack Airfield, on the Lizard, Ben was able to learn the basic effects of the glider’s controls and control the aircraft himself for a short time.
Rob, from Point near Truro, joined the Air Training Corps at the age of 13 and has taken every opportunity that the Corps has to offer. As well as qualifying as a gliding instructor, he has completed a powered aircraft flying scholarship in Dundee and has also represented the Corps at national level in small-bore shooting and has shot full-bore competitions at Bisley.
Rob said: “Being able to take my friends and family is an amazing feeling. This was an opportunity that I would not have had the chance to do without the support I received and I’m certain this will help me in my future career ambition to become a pilot in the navy.”
