Abi from Upper Sixth is set to release her EPQ song Someone to Know following a radio interview and a debut performance this week.
The song, recorded with the backing of the CuldRoses (Military Wives choir) and London guitarist Ben, was one of a selection written for Truro based cancer support charity Made for Life, as part of her Extended Project Qualification. The songs were going to be used in visualisation sessions for patients undergoing chemotherapy. However the charity thought one so powerful, they asked Abi to record it as their charity anthem.
Abi told BBC Radio Cornwall before the song was aired: “It has been an amazing opportunity to help a charity like this. Thank you to everyone who was involved!” Radio 2 has also requested a copy to play on air.
Someone to know was launched on Friday at the Made For Life Ball, where she performed it alongside Ben and the CuldRoses (Military Wives choir). The choir themselves lost one of their members to cancer last year, so supporting this project was incredibly important to them. Abby wants to thank in particular Georgina Davies, their MD, who wrote the choir’s arrangements.
They have already sold nearly 200 CDs. However, they aim to sell 500 in order to raise £1,000 for Made for Life, and make a difference to the lives of people suffering from cancer in Cornwall.
