Friday 16 March- Under 12 Boys County Hockey Tournament The tournament was hosted at Truro School and with only 7 teams entered each game we had to play like a final as it was on a round robin basis. We had a squad of 9 players and were aware we were losing our goalkeeper to the music festival half way through so this was already going to be a challenge for us. Most of the teams had one or two key players who were the play makes for their team, so when we were off we sussed out who we had to mark out of the game. We played Liskeard in our first game winning 4-0, Richard Lander 2-0, Cape Cornwall 8-0, Penrice 1-0, Penair 2-0 and in our final game we played Mounts Bay. Mounts Bay had to win the game to become winners and we had to either draw or win to ensure we won the tournament. This game was both a physical and mental battle for our boys, with the talented hockey players in the whole of Cornwall coming into one place at one time. We stayed strong and focused, supported one another and had a number of opportunities to score goals. In the final couple of minutes Mounts Bay undercut the ball and it looked like it was going into the top right of the net, however our stand in keeper pulled of the most spectacular save to ensure the game ended 0-0.
Not conceding one goal all day would have been a major achievement for any team and that’s exactly what our boys made sure of. We have some extremely talented boys in this year group and on the day, I made sure the key word was TEAM, they responded to this and that’s what’s won them the tournament, performing together!
Excellent Performance Boys and a Big Well Done!
