On Monday 8 September, the U15 girls travelled to Cumnor cricket club in Oxford to play in the National t20 finals day.
The first semi-final saw Shenfield HS and Wakefield Girls play for a place in the final. Wakefield were the stronger team and progressed into the final after scoring 112 and dismissing their opposition for 65.
The second semi-final was between Truro School and Brighton College. Brighton won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a flying start with their two U15 England academy players scoring freely. At the drinks interval, with only 10 overs having been played, Brighton had scored 87 for no loss. After the break the girls rallied and Beth bowled well, dismissing each of the openers in successive overs. Truro were able to restrict the scoring and limited Brighton to 136 off their allotted 20 overs.
Batting also proved challenging for the Truro side as both England players also opened the bowling. There were not many scoring opportunities, but the two openers worked hard to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The pick of the batters was Amy, who top-scored with 22 not out. Truro ended their innings on 77 for 8.
The girls have had a fantastic first season together winning 6 out of 7 games. Girls from the 1st year to 4th year have played in the team and the vast majority will be eligible to play in next year’s competition.
Well done to all who have played for the school.
