Last week, we experienced our best ever results at the U11 Girls’ IAPS Hockey Tournament. This event, held on Friday 18 October 2013 at Millfield School, had the largest entry of any region. As 28 schools had entered, and our first round match was at 9am, this meant we had travelled up the night before. A good sleep and an excellent breakfast seemed to hit the spot.
Our team played consistently well in their six group matches. Highlights included wins against Blundells and Highfield Schools, and draws with Hazlegrove, Sherborne Prep, and Mount House Schools. Our team only lost the one match to All Hallows, who finished group winners, with Hazlegrove as runners up. We finished third in our group, with 10 points, six goals scored and 1hour 12mins of match time.
It was great for the team to experience the high standard of match play at this tournament, and also for them to realise how close they had come to qualifying for the quarter finals, where six of the top eight would have been selected for the national tournament.
