Sweeny Todd in the Burrell Theatre, Truro

With 60 varied concerts each year, Truro School offers pupils numerous opportunities, to rehearse, perform and develop.

Concerts take place in school on a weekly basis.  There are regular weekday concerts after school when pupils of all ability and experience perform in front of their peers, family and friends in the Chapel.   Performance is an important part of pupils’ musical education and these informal concert opportunities enable confidence to grow as pupils become more accustomed to performing.  After each concert refreshments are served in the school Dining Hall or Heseltine Gallery and this is also a valuable opportunity for parents to talk to peripatetic teachers.

Major events each term include

  • The annual Hall for Cornwall Concert
  • Choral and Orchestral Concert in Truro Cathedral
  • Two Jazz Concerts
  • Chamber Concert
  • Christmas Carol service
  • Christmas Concert
  • Choral Evensong

The School Choirs and Orchestra have joined with Truro Choral Society to perform major works, such as:

  • Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini)
  • The Armed Man (Karl Jenkins)
  • Messiah (Handel)
  • Requiem (Faure)
  • Requiem (Mozart)
  • Carmen (Bizet)

Musicals

Musicians also collaborate with the Drama Department in a musical production.  Recent productions have included:

  • Sweeney Todd
  • Oliver
  • Les Miserables

Charity Concerts

Each year the pupils run a Junior and Senior Charity Concert.  Every aspect is done by the pupils themselves, from arranging auditions, selecting performers, rehearsing to organising programmes, tickets and refreshments.
