Surfers from Truro School’s Surfers Academy recently competed at the Cornish Schools Surfing Championships at Fistral, Newquay, for the very first time.
It was really exciting watching our pupils enter this event for the first time as a squad. Our team of five were there at 8am blessed with sun shine and small clean waves.
Harry and George were able to get through their first heat. Harry came 4th in his next heat and it was warming to see someone show such passion and commitment before and during his heat. Sadly, the waves were too small for Lloyd as he prefers larger, more challenging conditions and he was knocked out in the early rounds. Ollie surfed very well but sadly was in the same heat as our Captain, George. He managed a convincing 3rd place in his heat again did not proceed any further. George went on to the semi-final stages and was coming 2nd throughout the heat until the last dying minutes when he was piped to 3rd place by one of his old adversaries.
Overall they all represented Truro School well and I hope this event can become part of our sporting calendar as the squad grows helped by our professional coach Sam Lamiroy.
