Truro School prepares for their rendition of West Side Story

This year, join Truro School for a high-energy musical production of ‘West Side Story’. This well-loved classic is an award-winning adaptation of the romantic tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet’ about two feuding gangs in 1950s New York. Tony, a former Jet, and Maria, the younger sister of Shark leader Bernardo, fall in love and no one can stop their growing affection. However, as the Jets and Sharks’ feud escalates they plan a rumble under the highway that ends in tragedy.

Work on the production has intensified in the last couple of weeks.  Students have been working with local professional choreographer Tee J Randall, who has done a fantastic job of developing a dancing ensemble for the show. The orchestra are sounding fabulous too, under Mr Palmer’s baton.  Bernstein’s stunning music never fails to surprise and move audiences with its sheer inventiveness, verve and high emotion.

These performances will be held in the Old Sports Hall from Tuesday 20 November to Saturday 24 November at 7:30pm with an extra 2pm Matinee on the Saturday.

Boasting a 60 strong cast and a full orchestra, West Side Story promises to be yet another stunning production from Truro School Drama and Music departments.  Tickets are on sale at www.minack.com or 01736 810181.
