Truro School Cross Country success at the Regional Finals

Nine Truro School pupils represented Cornwall at the 2015 South West Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday. In each age category race they were competing against 70 of the region’s top county runners from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Avon.

The outstanding result of the day was from Finn who timed his race superbly to become South West Schools Junior Boys Champion – his first major regional schools title. In the same race Harris came fifth which was a remarkable achievement given that he is a ‘year young’ in this age group. Elliot and Alexander also ran very well in the race and helped the Cornish team to win the regional title.

In the Minor Girls and Minor Boys races, Rosie, Benjy and Sam all had very good races against strong opposition whilst Emily and Scarlett did themselves proud with fine performances in the Junior Girls race.

After all their hard training this winter on the school fields and in the dunes at Perranporth with coach John Knowles, Finn, Harris, Elliot, Alexander, Emily and Scarlett have now been rewarded for their efforts by being selected to represent Cornwall at the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships to take place at Witton Country Park, Blackburn, on Saturday 14th March 2015 where they will race the best runners in the country. Rosie, Benjy and Sam will have to wait another year because minor girls and minor boys do not compete at these championships.
