TSConnected

We have been hugely grateful over the years for the help and assistance our alumni, former and current parents have given in support of our Careers programme.

We are now developing this to ensure that not only our Sixth Formers but also our alumni have access to a network of contacts across the globe who can, in partnership with Truro School, assist and advise them in their future career planning.

TSConnected aims to connect Sixth Form students, alumni, current and former members of the Truro School Community to assist them with careers advice, guidance, work placement opportunities and networking links.

This programme will have many facets to it – our younger alumni may well continue to seek advice and mentoring from members of TSConnected whilst at the same time offering their own advice about their university course to those in school about to make their first big decision.

We appreciate that not everybody is able to visit the school to chat to our students about their career paths but there are other very important areas in which you can help us, if you are happy to do so.  Any one of the following would be of huge assistance to Sixth Form students and recent alumni deciding on their future career paths.

Maybe you could help in one, some or all of the ways listed:

Attend the TS Connected London or Bristol Networking event?
The London Networking event (October each year) has become hugely successful in bringing together alumni who can provide useful links and invaluable advice.  From 2019-20, we will be introducing a Bristol Networking event which will run in the same way.  This will be on 26th February 2020.  These events are also just an enjoyable evening catching up with fellow alumni over a drink.

Offer informal careers advice to students and recent alumni who are looking for guidance in their choice of career and how to succeed in the world of work once they graduate?
This could be: in school, over the telephone or video-conferencing.

Host a table at one of our business lunches?
Every term, we welcome alumni back to speak and share their career experiences with students. Your careers insights can make all the difference to students struggling to identify the right career for them or to those applying to work in your field.

Post 18 Option Days?
Students take part in our Post 18 Options Days where they get the opportunity to meet a range of entrepreneurs and high-profile visitors from leading businesses and universities. With a multitude of talks and seminars going on at the same time, they can dip into the sessions that interest them specifically, gaining first-hand insight from those at the top.

Offer an internship, work shadowing opportunity or small group visit to your place of work?
These meaningful employer experiences can provide students with a brilliant insight into what it is like to work in a particular sector, job role or company.

Conduct mock interviews?
These help students practice their interview techniques and is enormously beneficial in preparation for university or the world of work.

Review a CV?
As an employer knowing exactly what skills your industry is looking for, you could give vital tips to a young person applying for their first or second job.

Represent your career at our biennial Careers Fair?
Students from the 3rd Year upwards attend.  You could dispel the myths, promote the highlights and advise on useful GCSE, A levels and Degree courses and other specific skills required.

Become a University Rep?
As an under-graduate you can provide top tips to students about your university or provide a “Welcome” to alumni joining.

If you can help, or indeed would like to receive help and guidance, in any way, big or small, please complete the online form, indicating how you would like to participate.
