Congratulations to the 25 pupils who competed in the Cross Country races at Penair School on Monday 10 February 2014.
Over 300 children from local primary schools in the Truro area attended, with about 50 children competing in each race. The age categories were from Year 4 up to Year 6.
We have just received the fantastic news that 16 pupils have qualified for the next round – the Partnership Cross Country finals – at Pool Academy on 25 February. Their names appear in bold below. Our Year 6 boys’ and girls’ teams also won their respective team events (total of first 3 finishers), the Year 5 boys were 2nd in their team event, and we came 2nd overall in the team results (combined total of different age groups).
Our Year 4 team coped well with their 800m race route in windy and wet conditions. The boys were missing Joseph and Finn from their team on this occasion.
Y4 Girls: Evelyn (11th), Joanna (17th) and Adeline (29th)
Y4 Boys: Max C (11th), Harry (25th) and Heath (31th)
Our Year 5 team ran well over their 1200m race route, despite the muddy conditions. The girls were missing Harriet and Polly from their team, due to illness/ injury.
Y5 Girls: Gwen (22nd), Eve (24th) and Millie (31st)
Y5 Boys: Jason (6th), Milo (9th), Max B (13th), Gabriel (29th) and Jack (35th)
Our Year 6 team had the tricky task of staying warm, after walking the 1600m course. They have all been training regularly and deserved their sensational results. The boys were missing Charlie from their team on this occasion. Special mention must go to Elinor for completing the course with only one shoe, and Scarlett, who recovered brilliantly from a fall in the early stages of her race.
Y6 Girls: Rosie (1st), Poppy (3rd), Elena (5th), Laura (6th), Elinor (22nd) and Scarlett (25th)
Y6 Boys: Sam (1st), William (3rd), Darcy (8th), Aidan (15th) and Wiktor (21st).
About 25 pupils regularly attend our cross country club on Fridays after-school, and they will all be selected to compete in the Polwhele invitational event, on Saturday 29 March 2014. If you haven’t come to cross country club yet, but would like to come, we’d love to see you!
