In preparation for November’s epic production of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, we were delighted to welcome prolific actor Peter Polycarpou to the Burrell Theatre, who delivered an inspiring day’s workshop for cast members last week.
Perhaps most commonly known for the role of Chris Theodopolodous in Birds of a Feather, as well as numerous other film and television credits, Peter is a prolific star of the West End stage. He was in the original cast of Les Miserables and has played several different roles in the musical over the years; he was the first to play the role of John in Miss Saigon and has played the title role in Phantom of the Opera. In 2012, he played Beadle Bamford in the acclaimed West End transfer of Sweeney Todd, which also starred Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton.
Johanna Egar, Head of Drama, said: “With his wealth of professional knowledge and experience, Peter brought out terrifically exciting work from our 50-strong cast – who benefitted enormously from his character-based approach. We are very grateful to him for taking time out of his busy schedule to create such an enriching and stimulating experience for our actors.”
