On Friday 17 October a team of seven surfers from Truro School – comprising five pupils and two teachers – will be heading south to compete in a ground breaking surfing event at Sennen Cove.
Sam Lamiroy, who leads the Truro School Surf Academy and is recognised as one of Britain’s top surfers, has teamed up with Nixon Watches, iAM Bands, Sennen Surfing Centre and the YHA to create The Leveller. A unique surfing event which gives surfers of all abilities the opportunity to receive coaching and compete against each other utilising an innovative handicap system. Teams from four schools across the South West are ready to do battle.
The weekend will see the teams staying at Lands’ End YHA on the Friday night, taking part in surf coaching with professionals at the Sennen Surfing Centre, an SAS Beach Clean, a beach BBQ and the Leveller Surf Competition.
Sam said: “The idea is not to have the top professional surfers involved, but is rather an event encouraging and rewarding all abilities. It’s going to be a lot of fun, there will be incredible prizes and good times and, looking at the swell forecast, things could get serious!”
