Student sets sights on National Youth Theatre

Lower Sixth student Edward Townsend has secured a place for the prestigious National Youth Theatre in London.

Edward had to audition for a panel of industry experts using Diarmaid Corcorran from The Ferryman by Jez Butterworth, a speech that he had been working on in his drama lessons. The drama department had taken the Sixth Form students to the West End to see this remarkable new play and Edward was inspired to try out the role.

Speaking about Edward’s fantastic achievement, Truro School’s Director of Drama, Ben Oldfield, said

“Edward is a remarkable young actor and I’m delighted that he has got into the National Youth Theatre. It was evident in 5th Year when he played the lead role in our whole school production of Fiddler on the Roof that he has what it takes to hold an audience and perform with authenticity.  I know he will have an amazing time, learn a huge amount, and bring back some of what he has learned to share with us at Truro School.”
