As an exciting new initiative this school year, pupils in Years 5 and 6 can choose to embark on a Leadership Pathway as part of the Senior Activities programme, under the guidance of Mrs Barnett.
This is a structured activity that culminates in the Play Maker Award, which is a recognised qualification produced by national organisation Sports Leaders UK. Since September, we have seen pupils display a growth in confidence and in their communication and organisation skills as a result of this initiative.
They assisted and led activity sessions at an U9 Rugby Festival involving schools from around the county (with the RFU National Development Manager, Mr Gary Townsend). Some pupils have also helped with the swimming galas, in the library and some have helped Mrs Thorning in Pre-Prep by designing and putting together Story Sacks. Others recently acted as the quiz masters at the FTS social evening.
This term, the Leaders are running a brand new after school club for pupils in Year 2, with Mrs Barnett. They will be leading fun and constructive warm ups, planning activities and helping to lead the sessions. The Award also encourages the pupils to recognise the importance of planning and, in particular, looking at safety, area, equipment and methods of delivering tasks. The Leaders can achieve Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards.
The first club last week was very popular with Year 2 pupils. You can see more pictures in our gallery.
