Six Truro School Fencers Qualify for European Championship

Following on from a highly successful season for a number of our fencers, six Truro School pupils have qualified for the GB U17 or U20 European Championship teams.

The qualifications are:

For men’s U17 sabre: Will Deary and Josh Maxwell

For women’s sabre: Maria Chart and Caitlin Maxwell

For men’s epee: Charles Dean

For women’s U20 foil: Yvonne Chart

Raoul Bonah has also been selected for the German team.

To have such a large number of pupils making up the GB team and coming from one club is extremely prestigious and cements Truro School’s reputation as one of the best places to study and train for fencing.

Our fencers have travelled much of Europe and clocked up around 35 hours per week of training since September, so to have qualified for the major Championships at the end of the season is testament to their hard work, commitment and dedication.

They will now compete in Jerusalem in February. The World Championship teams will be announced by the governing body in the coming days but our pupils are in a strong position to secure places for these Championships too.
