Under 15s qualify for the knockout stages of National Tournament

Last season Exeter edged us by the tight margin of 3 matches to 2, but our Squash pupils are growing in stature at an  impressive rate and overcame their opponents with relative ease and a lot of style in this year’s fixture.

We are now in the hat as one of the top 24 teams nationally for the vital two knockout rounds before the best 8 schools gather at the end of March for the grand Finals at the Edgbaston Priory club in Birmingham. Other heavyweights in our sport include the likes of Millfield, Wycliffe and John Hampden and if we have a little luck with the draw, there is no reason why we could not make it all the way to compete with these schools in 2018. The current Under 15 team will not even peak until the next academic year and I want to emphasise that it is very much a squad effort with only 5 able to play at any time from our pool of 8. Congratulations to Jack Mahon, Louis Murray, Ben Thorpe, Jason Ayliffe, Milo Charles, George Purchas, Ollie Beaumont and Ed Rodda for their efforts to date.

Also of note was the improved performance of our Under 17 team who lost out 4/1 to Exeter but showed a good level of desire and fight ensuring that it was far from easy for our opposition to clinch their knockout spot in the older division. We also welcomed back Ethan Elwell to the team, saw Rufus Martin win in fine style and both captain Ollie Brocklebank and stalwart Oscar Pringle took games off their higher ranked adversaries. We will proceed into the trophy (B division) in this category and intend to get a good run here too!
