Truro Prep entered two teams into Truro High School’s Annual Netball Tournament this year. With ten teams involved in the competition, there was a lot of netball to be played.
The Prep School teams were separated into two different groups for the 1st part of the day with the ‘A’ team coming 2nd in their group and the ‘B’ team coming 3rd. These groups were then re-arranged in the second part of the day in a play-off for the final positions.
The ‘A’ team faced a tough group consisting of Truro High School ‘A’ and ‘B’, St Agnes ‘A’ and Perranworthal. They started off strong with a re-match against Perranworthal who had beaten them earlier, 3-2. This time Truro Prep proved to be the stronger, winning 3-1. Next they faced St Agnes; the defending team of Ysolde and Gwen were too much for their shooters who just couldn’t get close to the goal. We won 3-0. Thea was moved up to the ‘A’s and the next match was Truro High ‘B’. They played a great game and the score didn’t justify how well the High School played as they really made the Prep girls work hard for their 5-0 win. The final game was against Truro High ‘A’. Both sides played well making it a tense game for the coaches to watch; the final score was 2-2. This group section was over, we now had to wait to find out the other results.
Our ‘B’ team also had a good group: Bosvigo, St Agnes ‘B’, Polwhele and Kea. As the afternoon went on the team improved greatly, using the space well and growing in confidence. They won their first two games against Bosvigo and Kea and played a tight game against Polwhele with some excellent defending by Kathryn, though narrowly losing by 3 goals to 2. The final game was against St Agnes ‘B’ but unfortunately the ‘A’ team had borrowed Thea and so they had to play with one player short. The whole team fought hard and the game was evenly matched until the last few seconds when St Agnes managed to shoot the last goal winning the game 2-1.
The final results were announced and the Truro Prep ‘B’s came 6th and the ‘As’ were the overall Tournament winners.
Well done to all the girls that took part and a special thank you to Jess Howard who was the team manager for the day and showed a huge amount of encouragement and support to the team.
