Squash National Schools Championships Report 2017

This was Truro School’s first season competing in the most prestigious competition on the School Squash calendar at Under 15 and Under 19 levels.

In the Autumn term the Under 15 team qualified comfortably for the last 16 of the knockout Cup event and the Under 19 team went into the Trophy after missing out in the Cup by a single point.

The younger team went to Bath in order to challenge a very strong John Hampden School side who managed to beat us 5/0 and have since qualified for the grand finals itself. Very notable is the fact that 4 of our team are aged 12 or under and will be very much stronger over the next two seasons as we make a serious bid to challenge for the finals. Congratulations to Jack, Louis, Josh, Rufus, Jason, Ben and George who fought very hard for the School and achieved so much in our first campaign.

In the Under 19s we drew Wellington College and played the fixture in Taunton. Amazingly our young superstars Jack and Louis, both 12, forced their way into the team and played high up in the order against opponents 6 years older. On the day Wellington overcame us 4/1 and qualified for the quarter finals. Our squad members comprised Ethan, Callum, Ollie, Oscar, Sam and Billy as well as Jack and Louis.

We are now commencing a period of sustained practice and hard training and should be in a position to closely challenge the top Squash schools in the land next season.
