U16 County Netball Tournament – Champions
Truro School won our group beating Penair 17-2, Penrice 15-6, Penryn 14-9, Pool 18-1 and Wadebridge 20-4.
On to the final where we met Penryn and Richard Lander in a three-way round robin. We played Richard Lander first winning 10-6. Our final game was against Penryn again who we beat 12-11.
The girls were undefeated all day and now go on to represent Cornwall at the South West finals in January.
U18 vs Penwith College Won 32-16
Truro started strong in this match and took a good lead, only for Penwith to come back with the score 8-6 to Truro at quarter time. Truro then upped their game with much improved timing and dominant drives, never looking back to win comfortably. Amy shot superbly and demonstrated great ball handling skills. A squad effort before the County tournament next week.
U14 vs Penryn Lost 14-15
What a great game of netball played both teams. It was played under tournament timings to give the girls a practice for their County Tournament in November. Each quarter was played with different combinations to see how the girls coped being out of their comfort zone. All the girls gave 100% and accepted the challenge. Special mention must go to Ayla and Millie who played exceptionally well.
U16 vs Penryn Lost 16-18
The girls contested a closely fought match against Penryn school. It was a fast paced game throughout and the Truro attack moved the ball around the court well to create good scoring opportunities. Close marking in defence meant that the Penryn shooters found it hard but eventually came out on top. Player of the match was Lara
U15 vs The Maynard – ISNC Lost 44-45
The U15s had an incredible match against The Maynard School from Exeter in the Independent Schools Netball Cup. Every match prior to this has resulted in a well fought match with The Maynard always coming out on top. It was a full hours match. The first quarter was close with The Maynard taking an early 2 goal lead. The second quarter went Truro’s way with some superb defending from the whole team to get The Maynard tense. Rosie shot superbly and many players made vital interceptions. Truro continued to hold the lead in the fourth quarter, up by three goals with not long to play. Unfortunately the pressure told and Truro made some unforced errors allowing The Maynard back into the game. With the game all square the opposition scored and with Truro in possession in attack the final whistle went; a one goal defeat. All of the squad should be congratulated for their efforts and their improved mental toughness. Next time we will get them!
U12 vs Falmouth 3-3, 3-0
Both teams played simple but effective netball, driving the ball forward which gave them numerous opportunities for shots. The first team that played fought back from being 2 nil down and ended up winning the game 3-2. The second team dominated the game having numerous shots and scoring 3 to win the game 3 nil. The girls remained calm and composed throughout which got both teams a victory.
Well Done to both teams!
U13 vs Falmouth Won 10-2
The work ethic was impressive, and good communication, combined with a high skill level, meant good attacking opportunities were constantly created. Truro’s team proved too much for Falmouth leading to a confident win. Player of the match was India B
U14 vs Falmouth Won 22-5
A strong and determined start led to an early lead of 9-2 in the first quarter. Against a tall defense our attack had to work the ball to the edge of the circle to feed the shooters who were trying to hold front space. As a team, pressure on Falmouth’s passing lead to several interceptions and loose balls. Each quarter a different combination of players were tried in preparation for the upcoming County tournament. Player of the match: Nancy Read.
U15 vs Falmouth Won 16-10
Having just played The Maynard in the U15 ISNC, the squad with a few additional players took to the court. Legs were weary but the girls were professional and worked hard as a squad (many playing out of position) to deny a good Falmouth team.
