A glorious day in the sunshine at Bodmin was the perfect setting for two standout performances from the U18 netball teams. The first VII were were drawn against old foes Truro College in the first game of the day and were drawing 6-6 late in the game before nerves got the better of them and, in chasing the win, they came up short 8-13. Subsequent victories against Helston (14-6) and Penwith College (12-0) were both games in which school were rarely troubled and ensured the girls qualify for the Regional Finals in January as Runners Up in the county. This was a real squad performance but Lily was quite exceptional at GK and ensured that any ball into the circle would need to be pinpoint-accurate if it was to get past her. Preparations for the Regional Finals will begin in earnest after half term!
Meanwhile, the “B” team, led superbly by Lowenna and backed up by Issy, were competing in the Challenge Cup competition against many first teams from local schools. Opening, tight, victories over Camborne (4-2) and Wadebridge (5-4) were followed by a monumental 6-6 draw against Truro College 2. The girls were a little deflated, knowing they were capable of winning the game and Penwith College “B” were on the receiving end of their frustration in the next game as Lowenna and Anne shot the lights out to secure a 10-1 win! There followed a frustrating, and again, winnable, game against Treviglas “A” but the girls came up short 6-8. Relatively comfortable wins over Bude (6-2) and a particularly dominant win over hosts, Bodmin, (8-1) were followed by another agonising defeat to Truro College 1, school losing by the odd goal in eleven. A superior goal difference, however, ensured school finished Runners Up in the Challenge Cup and both sets of girls boarded the bus with a silver medal around their necks.
