Netball Match Reports: February 2017

Tuesday 28 February

Under 12 B vs Newquay Tretherras

Lost 3-10

It was a difficult game for the B’s against a tall Newquay side. The score after the first quarter was only 1-0 to Truro. Newquay then dominated and Truro went to pieces. Fortunately Truro pulled it together in the last quarter and worked hard playing some much better netball.

Under 13B vs Newquay Tretherras

Lost 14-16

Once again it was good to get the B team on court. The girls were unaware they were playing Newquay A team but they were evenly matched. The defence made plenty of turnovers but rushed the next pass giving Newquay possession. Every one of the squad played with total enthusiasm and worked till the final whistle.

Under 15B vs Newquay Tretherras

Won 15-9

The conditions were very testing and initially didn’t recognise the importance of short passes to stop them from losing control of the ball in the wind, after the quarter time the girls changed their approach and this enabled the ball to move efficiently down the court to goal. Aerin positioned herself in the most effective position under the goal to enable the GA to retrieve the rebound if the wind became challenging.

Wednesday 22 February

A super performance by the Under 12s. Lots of turnovers and some great court play resulted in a good win. Player of the match voted by the opposition was Evelyn.

Under 12 B vs Mount Kelly

Won 5-1

A steady game by the B squad; really concentrating on their defensive positions and making many turnovers. Evie was voted player of the match by the opposition.

Under 13A vs Mount Kelly

Won 23-2

This was a great opportunity to get all the squad on court after their commitment to training. The A squad played first and after a tentative start in the shooting circle the girls took complete control of the game.

Under 13B vs Mount Kelly

Won 11-4

The next game gave all the players a chance to play which they did with complete enthusiasm. It was so pleasing to see the players work the ball up the court using the 3 channels and patiently getting the ball to the shooters. Each player played their part with gutsy determination and were worthy winners.

Saturday 4 February

Under 12B vs Plymouth College A

Lost 1-21

The B Team played against a strong A team from Plymouth College. The girls played an excellent game however the height of the opposition proved too much. The team played their very best through the match and are to be commended for their effort. Player of the match was Joanna.

Under 13B vs Plymouth College A

Lost 8-21

This was an opportunity to see the girls compete and see how they coped with the pressure. The score didn’t really give a true impression of the game. There were good passages of play from the defence but Plymouth had a tall GD and our centre court had difficulty in feeding the circle. The girls played with enthusiasm the whole game and didn’t drop their heads. Special mention to Emma who worked tirelessly throughout.

Under 14B vs Plymouth College A

Won 19-11

It was lovely to see the B team get a game against quite strong opposition. Truro lead throughout but Plymouth College put up a strong fight winning the last quarter. The girls worked hard to improve their drives for the ball. Milly was voted player of the match by the opposition and captain Jess, was coach’s player of the match.

Under 16B vs Plymouth College A

Won 15-8

A combination of Under 16s and Under 15s made up the team for the fixture away to Plymouth College. A slow start from both sides, with lots of passing errors being made, but Truro were first to settle and take the lead. With team changes at each break and the team focusing on passing and timing Truro produced some steady play. Super defending my Mary and shooting from Captain Anais , saw a well earned victory. Well done to all the players who travelled away, gave their best and were a credit to the school.

Under 18B vs Plymouth College A

Lost 23-34

The Under 18 B squad were depleted in this fixture but were greatly supported by the Under 15 and Under 16 players. Drawing at half time 13-13 Plymouth College were more hungry for the ball and came back fighting. Molly shot well in the shooting circle and Amy dominated the centre court. Laura collected many rebounds in defence but it was not enough to see Plymouth pull away. The final score was 23 – 34. Lara was outstanding in defence and fully deserved the player of the match. Thank you to all the girls who were a pleasure all day.

A super game against the prep school with lots of different combinations being tried. All of the girls worked tirelessly throughout. Anya emerged as an accurate and able shooter; with Heidi playing exceptionally.

Under 12 B vs Truro Prep

The team played an excellent match against the prep school, with excellent defence and good movement in the circle. Player of the match was Evie.
