Under 12B Girls vs Pool
The girls had the majority of the possession the entire game but struggled to get near the goal. When we finally did manage to get a couple of shots at goal, it was straight at the keeper. The girls did well at being patient and trying not to force the ball forward continuously. They played the ball around and waited for gaps to appear, when the goal finally came it was well worked. The result does not reflect the game, it should have been a much higher score.
Well Done Girls!
Under 13B Girls vs Pool
The girls started the match strong, intercepting the ball soon after centre pass and making strong tackles. With good spatial awareness they managed a number of accurate passes between the team. During the first half the play was mainly down the centre of the pitch and Pool School managed to capitalise on one attack to open the scoring. Shortly following this Truro School retaliated by scoring a great goal of their own into the back right corner off the back of some great linking play.
The second half saw Truro more composed and in control of the game, passing the call wider and using square and straight passes to get past the Pool defence. A final goal was scored high into the net from a fabulous slap hit at the top right of the D which ended the scoring 2-1 to Truro.
Under 14 Girls vs Pool
With a couple of players out last minute through illness, it was a game where the girls had to conserve their energy and make the ball do the work, and they did exactly that! The girls played an incredible passing game and their movement off the ball was fantastic. The goals they scored were well worked, ranging from hard hits from the top of the ‘D’ to one touch passing in the ‘D’ with someone on the post ready to slot the ball in. I was very impressed with the girls performance it was a great team effort to finish there hockey season with.
Under 12 Boys County Tournament
With 9 teams entered into the tournament and it being played on a round robin basis, each game was crucial. We had two teams in the tournament, both played some lovely hockey and showed their individual skill beating the opposition. The goals scored were well worked goals and the majority of the games we maintained all the possession but struggled to get the ball in the back of the net. We won 5 games, lost 2 and drew 1, each game the boys were determined and motivated to get the result. Each player worked hard throughout the day, even when they were exhausted they picked themselves up to put on a good performance again. Coming 3rd overall was a good result to get but if it went on team performance rather than an individual player winning the game, we would of definitely have come out on top!
Well Done Boys!
Under 13 Girls Regionals in Milfield
The girls performed above and beyond expectations at the tournament. They played 6 games in total and had an extremely hard group, they lost 3 and drew 3. The toughest game but best performance was against Dean Close (last year’s winners), they did well to keep the score to a 0-3 loss, they did not give up without a fight. They were determined and motivated throughout the tournament to play to their highest standard possible both as individuals and as a team. The positivity and support with one another was great to see. I was extremely impressed with the transferring of the ball, maintaining possession and sheer passion to win the ball if they lost it. It was a great opportunity for the girls I was so proud of their attitude and performance throughout the day. Well Done!
Under 12 Girls County Tournament
Truro School hosted one pool of the U12 County Hockey Festival this Thursday and having entered both an A and a B team were well represented. Within a pool of eight, the A and B teams were drawn into different sections and both played well in the early group stage. The A team started phenomenally with a 14-0 win against Pool A and followed this up with a 6-0 win against Liskeard and a 0-2 loss against Richard Lander. The B team, who have not played a lot of hockey this season, put up a good fight and got progressively better throughout their three games, losing the last, against Truro High School B by just one goal. The A team, having finished second in their section faced their closest rivals, Truro High A, in the quarter final. The girls raised their game and played some fantastic hockey showing their hunger; Mrs Mulready was particularly impressed with the girls work rate on and off the ball. The girls progressed through to the semi-finals held at Peniar School and were drawn Newquay Tretherras in what was to be an end to end, high tempo game that ended with extra time and penalty flicks. Unfortunately it was not to be their day and the girls lost on flicks to leave the competition just a stone’s throw from the final. Evelyn Heather (A team) and Chloe Lansdowne (B team) were the coaches’ women of the tournament on this occasion. Well done to all the girls.
Under 14 Girls vs Richard Lander
Another impressive game, working on 3D skills and change of speed in training, certainly paid off in this game. There was a number of players using 3D skills and change of pace to beat the opposition. It was obvious that Truro had prepared well for this game and we had high hopes to get a big score against Richard Lander as it had always been a tight game. The girls were determined and focussed to control the game and get a winning result.
Well Done another great performance by these girls!
Under 13 Girls vs Richard Lander
After battling hard to get a win after losing to Richard Lander in the County Tournament the girls were determined and motivated to come out on top. They played an incredible passing game involving the whole team maintaining possession the majority of the game. They had a number of shots on target but Richard Landers keeper kept them in the game, Truro were extremely unlucky not to get the result here. Richard Lander were quick on the break and took a last chance attempt to get a goal which was the winning one. It was an unfortunate result for Truro and they definitely deserved to get the draw at least.
Under 12 Girls vs Richard Lander
The girls played a good paced game against Richard Lander, going 1-0 down early on but through determination and finding each other well in the second half with good team play, Truro scored a great goal to level the score to 1-1. It was a great fight back to get a result that reflected the game.
Well Done girls!
Under 14 Girls vs Newquay Tretherras School
The object of the game was to pass the ball once received (pre-scan before) and to play a 3 touch game which is exactly what they did. The girls moved well of the ball, and gave options all over the pitch for the next effective pass. They attacked wide holding their positions and defended close together in the centre of the pitch to make the opposition go out wide. The goals scored were well worked goals, each goal was a team effort. Even though the score was rather high, the girls played the best hockey I have seen all season and their high standard and ability did not drop at all throughout this game.
