Fencing report: National Circuit Sabre Event

Last weekend our Under 20 fencers travelled to Manchester for a national circuit sabre event, all were looking for a good result to help them secure their place on the next international in the sabre heartland of Budapest. We had a fantastic weekend, our younger fencers competed for experience so it was pleasing to see Sam Boorne take 42nd, Luke Haynes 20th, Alex Boote 17th places, and Molly Wood claim 18th place with Jenna Bray in 15th and Lily Wood in 8th.

However,  Nick Howes fresh off the back of his recent, first senior call up for Dakar, stormed through the draw to take the gold medal, only really being tested by Jamie Craze in the quarter finals who Nick beat 15-14. Jamie finished in 7th place with Bertie Holdsworth claiming a well deserved bronze.

In Russia, Simon Aydarov put all his training to good use by finishing in an excellent 7th place at the Sochi under 20 world cup. This will now secure his place in the U20 Russian national team.
