Senior Boys’ Boarding Blog – 15 January

It has been lovely to return to weekend duty with the boarders this week.

The Lower Sixth boys have enjoyed the chance to relax following a week of mock exams. Time now to reflect on the results and look for the best ways to make further progress. Friday night saw several boys head to bed early, clearly a week of exams has taken it’s toll. Some boys took the chance to play pool or table tennis and generally find some much needed down time. Alec enjoyed the challenge of getting the most for his money as he used the weekly entertainments budget to ensure the boys would be well fed.

Alfie was up early on Saturday to represent the school at hockey, along with one of our weekly boarders, Ali. A long journey up to Mount Kelly was made worth it, with 2 good games against Mount Kelly and West Buckland. Saturday evening saw Alec kindly offer to cook for the boys, delivering pizza and chicken to the common room where everyone enjoyed talking about the day’s events (much football chat!) and looked forward to the Sunday activity.

After the normal lie in on Sunday, the 5th Year and Lower Sixth boys teamed up with the Junior boys from Poltisco for a visit to the ATV centre only 20 minutes away from the school. After a safety briefing and donning appropriate kit, the boys got a 25 minute quad biking session on a great course including table top jumps and rollers and, following some recent wet weather, lots of mud! It was great to see how much fun they had, Andre was a natural while Sammy found some unorthodox methods to stop! Mr Lawrence and I couldn’t let them have all the fun, and joined in with the second group, trying to show them how it was done!

Sunday evening consisted of some delicious food and then the boys turned their thoughts to the week ahead, sorting out prep and organising themselves. It has been a good weekend with many boys claiming that this has been the best activity yet. I agree!
