This weekend we changed the clocks to British Summer Time and it seems the weather agreed! The boys have enjoyed a weekend of warmth and sunshine. For Alex and Jason, this weekend saw a gruelling DofE expedition, the boys returned on Sunday with sore feet but in high spirits having enjoyed the walking and the comradery. Simon had his usual hockey filled weekend, losing out narrowly in a cup match for Truro Men’s team on Saturday and coming 2nd out of 8 teams playing for Cornwall on Sunday. Callum represented Falmouth 1st XV on Saturday, gaining a welcome victory over rivals St Austell.
On Saturday we joined up with the junior boys for our trip out to watch the Cornish Pirates play rugby against London Irish. The Cornish Pirates are Cornwall’s only professional rugby team and play in the 2nd tier of English rugby. It was a great occasion with the visitors leading the league. They certainly showed us why with a dominant victory. I think the boys were impressed with the size and power of the players on display and many enjoyed a burger and chips to watch the game with. The return journey in the minibus really showed off the beautiful Cornish countryside and Obum was particularly taken with the sight of St Michael’s Mount.
Ries was in charge of Saturday night entertainment and organised a series of “Kahoot” quizzes with the boys all answering questions using their phones. With pizzas for the winners and press ups for those getting easy questions wrong, there was a lot of laughter in the common room.
Sunday was a much quieter day with the library being well used for study. The 5th and Upper 6th students are starting to feel the pressure of upcoming exams and it is good to see them working hard in readiness. In this time, I feel it is more important than ever that they spend some time out of the house at weekends in order to give the brain a break.
