On Wednesday 8 October the 1st XV made the three hour journey to Bristol to play the highly regarded Colston’s Collegiate side.
An improved performance was needed after the disappointment of the Blundells defeat and the side responded superbly to take a commanding 20:0 lead at the interval. Tries were scored by Rob Grigg and James Rowe, with Matt Poole kicking two conversions and two penalties. Colston’s, having defended for all of the first half, came out after the break with nothing to lose and brought the score back to 20:20 and looked the side most likely to win. However, a moment of class by stand-in scrum half Toby Robinson secured a Truro win 27:20 with a fine individual try in the dying moments of the game, converted by Poole from the touchline.
The junior sides played against Newquay Tretherras on the same day, winning all matches, although the Under 12A side were given their first real test of the season as they won a competitive game 29:24.
