On Wednesday 5 November, Truro School 2nd XV enjoyed their third comprehensive victory in a row with a very one sided encounter against a spirited Helston side. Taking the initiative early on, the school looked very comfortable with ball in hand and, with strong performances across the field, Truro scored 9 tries. Special mention has to go to Charlie Hatcher, who put in a super show after returning from injury. Fred Young also contributed well with 2 tries and conversions and John Caklais was excellent on the wing. The result was a very positive one for the county league, with Truro having four wins from their five league games so far. Tries by Hatcher (2), Young (2), Lowry, Pugh, Caklais, Edmondson, Ibbotson. Conversions by Young (2), Lowry (2).
The Under 16 side travelled to Plymouth College without several players who were training with the 1st XV. After a 0:0 half-time score line, Truro emerged narrow 8:7 winners in a competitive game.
The junior sides played Liskeard on the same day and all recorded comprehensive wins.
On Saturday 8 November the school sides played their annual block fixture against Plymouth College.
The 1st XV travelled to Plymouth and emerged narrow 25:24 winners in a pulsating game that saw the lead change hands seven times. Tries were scored by Toby Robinson and Joseph Elderkin, and Matt Poole scored an impressive 15 points with a try, 2 conversions and 2 penalties, the last of which sealed victory in the final two minutes of the game. Man of the match was Under 16 flanker Josh Hart, whose defensive tackling and work rate was immense.
The in-form 2nd XV brushed aside Plymouth College with a dominant performance, giving the team yet another big victory. Despite a number of players being unavailable, Under 16 players were able to step up for the team on the day, all putting in solid performances. From the whistle, Truro were immediately on the front foot with their dominant scrum and line-out, and, with the excellent Sam Haywood at scrum half, form players Fran Lowry, Rory Pugh, Fred Young and Sam Cumins were able to tear holes at will into the oppositions defence. 4 tries were scored in each half by Truro and the team have now amassed an impressive 195 points from their last four games.
