Rugby Summary – Week Beginning 29 September 2014

This has been a very busy week for the rugby teams. Last Wednesday the Under 12A and Bs, Under 13s and Under 14s all had convincing wins against Penryn, with the only defeat being inflicted on the Under 16Bs by the Penryn Under 16 A team.

The 2nd XV lost 24:7 to Penwith College 1st team in the Cornwall league on the same day, although the score did not reflect the competitiveness of the game and some tremendous defensive play by Truro.

A quarter of the school were involved in the 11 matches played against Blundells at the weekend. Wins were recorded for the Under 12 A and Bs, Under 13s, Under 14A and Bs and Under 16A and Bs, with defeats for the 1st XV, 2nd XV and Under 15A and B sides.

The 1st XV match was particularly disappointing as our defence capitulated at times, offering Blundells several easy scores. A late fight back brought the score to a respectable 27:29, but the side was in reality well beaten on the day.

On Sunday, a number of our Under 16s played for the Cornwall A and B sides against Devon. Congratulations go to Josh Hart, Joe Elderkin and Johnny Wood who played for the A team and to Piran Venton, Rory Heard and Jordan Smart who played for the B team. Will Hooper, Stan Somers, Toby Hodges and Bradley Rowe were also selected to play but were unavailable due to injury.

Congratulations also go to James Bishop, James Rowe and Toby Robinson who were on duty for Cornwall Under 18s against Somerset on Sunday.
