On Tuesday 22 September Truro’s Under 13 rugby team made the four hour journey to Beechen Cliff in Bath to play the first round of the ‘School Sport Magazine’ National Cup. Beechen Cliff have some 180 boys in each year group and have been dominant over all local opposition in this age group during the last year. Truro made an explosive start with the forwards in fine form and went into a 17-0 lead at half-time with tries by Allister, Hallam and French. Beechen Cliff responded strongly after the interval but Truro’s defence was resolute and a further try by Allister 7 minutes from time secured a well-earned victory. Truro now play Richard Lander in the 2nd round after their impressive 54-19 win over Newquay.
On Wednesday 23 September, a depleted 1st XV played Truro College 2nd XV. Missing five regular backs gave the opportunity for Will Rowe, Henry Williams, Rory Heard and Bradley Rowe to step up and all performed with great credit. Truro School won a hard fought contest 18-5 with tries by Heard, Sam Haywood and Seb Firth, who also kicked a penalty.
On the same day, the 2nd XV faced a strong Bodmin College side and were well-beaten 12-42. The junior sides also played Bodmin College with all sides recording wins over their relatively inexperienced opponents.
