Rugby Summary – Week Beginning 17 November 2014

On Wednesday 19 November five matches were played by the school teams against local opposition.

The 2nd XV hosted a Truro College 2nd/3rd XV and put in their best performance of the season to overcome the visitors in a pulsating encounter. With two league victories over the College 3rd XV, and five wins in a row, School were enjoying a rich run of form which a bulky and determined unit from the College were determined to end.  The school, however, started off the strongest, and a lack of discipline from the College enabled us to steadily rack up the points. A fine individual try by Fran Lowry was the highlight of the first half. In the second half, we were able to defend admirably and with determination, focus and technical skill which saw us run out comfortable winners, with excellent tries by the in-form Fred Young and Rory Pugh.  Fred Young kicked 2 penalties and 3 conversions.

The Under 15s hosted Mounts Bay in the quarter-final of the County Cup and ran out comfortable 46:10 winners, with Patrick Parry in particular showing good form.

The junior B sides entertained Fowey, with the Under 12B and Under 13B winning 20:12 and 50:0 respectively, whilst the Under 14B side were defeated 24:34 in an entertaining and well-contested game.

On Saturday 22 November the school played a block fixture against Shebbear College from North Devon with our B sides playing Shebbear’s A teams. In the home matches, the 2nd XV, playing Shebbear 1st XV, lost a competitive match 19:26. Truro squandered several opportunities and will rue the missed tackles contributing to the visitors’ victory. The Under 16A/B side played Shebbear 2nd XV and won convincingly 50:14. The Under 15B were also too strong for Shebbear, particularly in the forwards, winning 34:10. In the away games the Under 13B won 41:26 having been 26:12 down with only ten minutes to play! It must have been quite a dramatic last few minutes. The Under 12B side performed well to win 41:0.
