Rugby Summary Week Beginning Monday 12 October 2015
On Monday 12 October the Under 14 rugby side played at St Ives in the county cup, winning comfortably 58-0 in a very shortened game.
The 2nd XV travelled to Truro College on Tuesday to play their 3rd XV in a Cornwall League game. Truro dominated the first half with the lineout particularly effective but the college responded well after the break. The game was level at 19-19 going into the last two minutes before Cam Briggs crashed over to win the game for school. Other tries were scored by Andrew Hodding (2) and Oliver Baker. Mike Austin kicked 3 penalties.
Wednesday 14 October proved to be particularly busy with seven matches played, including three national cup matches at home.
The 1st XV hosted Plymouth College in the 2nd Round of the Under 18 NatWest Cup and played some superb rugby in the first twenty minutes to go into a 20 point lead with tries by Dan Hubble, Rory Pugh and Johnny Wood. Will Hooper kicked a penalty and a conversion. Plymouth fought back well and when Josh Hart was sin binned for a high tackle, Truro were forced onto the back foot and two missed tackles resulted in tries in quick succession immediately after the break. Some nervous moments were finally relieved as Truro hit back with two late tries by Dan Hubble and Matt Poole to give the school a 32-12 win.
The Under 15 hosted Penrice Academy in the Under 15 NatWest Cup and in a one-sided and shortened match, won 64-0. The Under 15s now go on a short tour of Bath, Bristol and Gloucester this weekend.
The Under 13s, having won impressively in the previous round of the National Cup at Beechen Cliff, hosted Richard Lander who themselves had an impressive 50 point win at Newquay. The side performed very well against their much bigger opponents, winning 29-12 and now progress to play either Torquay Boys Grammar School or Queen’s College, Taunton at home in the third round.
The Under 16s, Under 14s and Under 12 A&Bs travelled to Redruth on the same day for fixtures. The Under 16s enjoyed a comfortable 53-0 win and the Under 14s started to show some good form in coming back from 0-14 to win 37-14. The Under 12A side had a surprising 5-10 defeat, whilst the Under 12B side won 60-0.
