Prep Pupils study Sukkot Festival

As part of their Humanities work on Judaism, Year Six have been studying the Jewish festival of Sukkot.

During Sukkot, which occurs around this time of year, Jewish people make temporary shelters called sukkahs in which they eat and often sleep. The Prep School’s outdoor classroom is the perfect basis for our very own sukkah. Its construction already mirrors some of the requirements: it’s made from natural materials; it has three walls; it is open in part to the elements. Jewish people often decorate their sukkahs with fruit and ornaments; Year Six have done the same. They had lots of fun making paper chains and images of fruit to adorn their sukkah. Our studies culminated in a pretend meal inside the sukkah.
