Truro school were thrilled to welcome Duchy Ballet back to the Pre Prep this week.
The children had the opportunity to watch a few sneak previews of some of the dances that will be in this years Hall for Cornwall’s performance of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’.
It was wonderful to see some of our Year 3 girls performing with such poise and confidence. Mrs Jones explained that this years performance included several boys, we were lucky enough to see one of these performers, Casper (age 7), who had travelled up from Nancledra to perform for the children and help us with our workshop.
This year artistic director, Kay Jones, explained how the concept of mime worked within a ballet and taught us all some basic mimes. Her young performers then worked alongside our Reception children along with some of the Prep school ballet dancers, helping them create their own mimes and then performing them to each other. The children were inspired and completely engaged in this workshop. It was an ideal opportunity for our pupils to not only build their confidence and use their imagination but also to explore performance skills and storytelling. Many advocates of drama with children in early years believe that learning such skills at this young age increases their ability to learn and absorb information much more thoroughly and quickly.
We all agreed that the ballet Sleeping Beauty is the one to watch and our pupils can’t wait for this entrancing story to be performed on March 17th and 18th at Hall for Cornwall.
